Historical Significance

Founded by Caliph Walid I at the beginning of the 8th century, Anjar stands as the only example of an inland commercial center from the Umayyad period.

Architecture & Layout

The rectangular city plan measures approximately 385 by 350 meters, enclosed by fortified walls with semicircular towers and a gateway at each cardinal point.
